Number of Council Members

The City Council has seven members consisting of the Mayor and six council members.

Term of Office

The terms of office for the mayor and all council members are three years.

Mayor Elected At-Large

• Method of Election: The mayor is elected at large.
• Candidate Residency: The mayor must be a resident of the city and may reside in any district.
• Method of Determining Election: The mayor is elected by majority vote.
• Voter Residency: All qualified voters of the City of Lamesa are eligible to vote for the mayor.

Single Member Districts

• Number of Members Elected: Of the seven council members, six are elected from single-member districts.
• Candidate Residency: A candidate for any district must reside within the city limits, but not within the district.
• Method of Determining Election: Election to any district is by majority vote.
• Voter Residency: Only qualified voters residing within the district are eligible to vote for the council member representing that district.
